PHMSA Announces ORM-D Extension

May 1, 2012

In its commitment to providing clients with the latest industry news that affects their business, Inmark announces a proposed extension by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) to HM 215-K, eliminating the ORM-D marking on specific packages as of Jan. 1, 2014 for surface transport and Jan. 1, 2013 for air transport.

Per the extension to HM 215-K on May 25, 2012, permissible use of the ORM-D labels for surface transport would be extended to Jan. 1, 2015. The proposed extension has been added to allow businesses time to assist in training and proper labeling of packages. This change will help in the effective and efficient transport of dangerous goods that are sometimes shipped via ground and sea, ensuring proper labeling and assurances of safe packaging for all dangerous goods.
